Context

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) relies on its Medical Guidelines app to give frontline healthcare workers fast, reliable access to clinical protocols in the field, often in environments with little or no internet connectivity. The app serves a global audience across multiple languages, including Arabic, French, Spanish, and English, and must perform under extreme conditions.

Design Challenge

Redesign the MSF Medical Guidelines app to improve offline accessibility, navigation clarity, and multilingual usability, while building a scalable design system to support long-term development. The experience needed to feel clear, trustworthy, and effortless for healthcare workers under pressure, with zero room for ambiguity.

key contributions

  • Built the full design system in Figma, including typography, icons, buttons, forms, navigation components, cards, and notifications, ensuring consistency and scalability across the app.

  • Collaborated with the UX designer to build the user flows, ensuring critical actions like downloading guidelines, managing offline content, and navigating between languages were intuitive and frictionless.

  • Led all UI design across the app, including guidelines listing, multilingual download management, bookmarks, offline mode indicators, and update notifications.

  • Designed for multilingual complexity, including Arabic, ensuring the reading experience is adapted correctly across layouts.

  • Developed clear online and offline UX patterns with visual indicators for downloaded content, download progress, and connectivity status, so users always know what is available without internet access.

  • Prototyped key flows, including onboarding, offline content management, and update notifications, to validate design decisions with stakeholders.
